Due to some access issues to the Machetanz Elementary school in Palmer AK, an $8 million project has been proposed to solve these problems by creating a more direct route.
While the school building plans were still being created, the borough assembly started to be concerned about accessibility to the school as the shortest route was through Garden Terrace Subdivision. When the school opened, the Borough recommended the route that takes Nelson Road, and there have been few reported problems with parents taking the short cut through the Subdivision. However, borough officials are working towards putting signs up to help direct more people in an attempt to eliminate the problem completely. Plans to surface 4,200 feet of the road to the Elementary school are pending for next year.
