AK state working towards unifed system
When dealing with the issue of generating energy in AK, the state has been looking to create a cooperative for generation and transmission of power. According to a recent article in the Frontiersman, legislation is still pending in both the state Senate and House of Representatives to create what is being titled as the Greater Railbelt Energy and Transmission Corp.; this corporation would be partially state owned and be able to borrow money to build and maintain large transmission lines and power plants in AK. So far Matanuska Electric Association (MEA), Chugach Electric Association and the Seward Electric Association are all backing this unified system of power.
