Last Saturday community members participated in a unique and successful fundraiser known as the “Mat-Su Polar Plunge.” True to its name, Alaska’s Mat-Su Valley AK Polar Plunge involved volunteers taking the ‘plunge’ into Wasilla Lake; participants jumped into the lake dressed in everything from only shorts to outrageous costumes (e.g. penguins) and quickly left the water with the aid of a trained crew. The event was held on Saturday afternoon at Wasilla Lake and more than 100 jumpers came out to raise money for local charities. Money earned from the Mat-Su Polar Plunge went towards the Special Olympics and Valley Performing Arts for the region. Pictures from the event can be viewed at frontiersman.com.
