Anchorage Museum offering ‘free days’ starting Feb 4

bank cardsIf you have bank cards with either Bank of America or Merrill Lynch, than you could gain free admission to the popular Anchorage Museum on specified days this year.  Starting on February 4th and continuing thereafter on the first Saturday of each month, individuals with Bank of America (or Alaska Airlines Visa, issued through this bank), and Merrill Lynch bank cards can participate in a free admission day.  This is a national program that will encourage attendance to famous museums in key locations, Anchorage being one of them.  Visitors only need to show up on eligible days, present a photo ID and the appropriate bank card and they are free to tour the excellent exhibits for the day.  Noteworthy exhibits include a new Preston Singletary (a renowned glass artist) spotlight from Smithsonian, Anchorage artist Tim Remick’s photography, and the Thomas Planetarium.

Mat-Su Valley AK’s Point MacKenzie Rail Extension project to move to next phase

constructionMat-Su Borough and the state of AK are planning on going to the next phase in construction for the rail extension project to Point MacKenzie.  Last month, the borough took bids for the construction of the first five miles of the extension that would start from the Point MacKenzie end; project manager, Joe Perkins, reported that the lowest bid was from Bristol Construction at around $17 million to do the job.  At an open house last Wednesday night, the railroad indicated that they would need an estimated $180 million from the state out of the $220-300 million that was estimated for the overall project.  The borough hopes to have two more segments up for bid next month and all but one of their permits are in place.  And as far as the design plans are concerned Perkins noted that they are about 60 percent done and the final design is slated to be released this summer.

Alaska Railroad Holds Open House for proposed 2012 projects

railroadThe Alaska Railroad has scheduled an open house today for the public to review and comment on the proposed 2012 projects.  Yesterday was the first open house event, from 4-6:30p.m. at the Anchorage Historic Depot and showcased the capital improvement projects that are in the works and those proposed for this year.  The second scheduled open house will be today from 4-6:30 p.m. at Evangelo’s Restaurant in Wasilla AK.  Community members will be able to listen to project managers explain the developments that will be located along the railroad system and have special emphasis on the projects concerning the Anchorage and Southcentral Alaska area.  Among the projects for 2012 are two special rail extensions including a bridge over the Tanana River at Salcha, and the first two construction phases of the Port MacKenzie Rail Extension.

Anchorage AK Real Estate Market Overview Update

houseTaking a look at Anchorage Alaska’s real estate market overview update reveals a rise in median sales price, with average listing price holding steady, according to recent trulia.com data.  Median sales price for Anchorage AK homes is at $244,086, which is 15.4 percent higher than the previous year’s data for the same time period of October-December.  Average listing price for homes for sale in Anchorage AK was $325,997 for the week ending Jan 11, which shows no change from the week previous.  As far as average price per square foot, there was a decrease of 10.8 percent compared to the same period of time last year.

Popular neighborhoods in the Anchorage AK area include Abbott Loop with an average listing price of $252,095, Sand Lake with an average listing price of $298,337, and Northeast with an average listing price of $214,011.
